Fernley Resource Centre, St. Joseph's, Freshfield

Fernley is a unique purpose built Day Activity Service surrounded by beautiful pinewoods, coastline and stunning walks.

We provide specialised day care for people with learning disabilities, many of whom also have complex, multiple disabilities with associated medical conditions.

Our aim is to improve the quality of life for everyone who uses this service. We build on individuals' abilities in a way that gives encouragement and builds self confidence. We are committed to the key principles of Valuing People and person centred planning, in line with the values of the Frances Taylor Foundation.

Fernley is divided into specialised areas to meet individual needs:

Sandlewood

A specialised unit which provides stimulation and medical intervention to individuals with associated medical conditions that require intensive support. Sandlewood is staffed by a dedicated trained team, including a qualified nurse.

Pathways

The key focus of the group is to provide learning opportunities to promote independent living in a safe but challenging, meaningful environment, empowering individuals to make their own decisions and choices.

Fernley have four other groups called Echoes, Horizon, Medley and Synergy. These groups are designed to create a happy stimulating safe environment to enable individuals to engage and enjoy Interactive activities. All sessions are structured within a framework which is flexible and unique tailored towards Individual needs.

In addition we have our own state of the art hydrotherapy pool with integrated jacuzzi. Our Individuals enjoy the freedom and fun as well as all the health benefits it has to offer. Attached is a beautiful conservatory were everyone has the opportunity to socialize and relax. The conservatory is also used for social events and provides a tranquil environment for families and friends to meet.

Sensory Rooms

Our snoezelem and dark room provides therapeutic and stimulating environment, with special lighting effects, mirrors, mirror balls, bubble tubes and special mattresses. While most of our individuals choose calming music, we have one or two who enjoy the sensation of pop music. Each room has over head tracking fitted for safe manual handling procedures.

Computer Room

Enables individuals to explore new opportunities. Our computers have full disabled access.
Fernley offer a wide range of activities which include educational, stimulating and relaxing, to enhance each individual's physical, emotional, intellectual and social development.
We provide Holistic therapies specific to individual needs, carried out by qualified therapists.

Staff Team

All our staff are skilled, dedicated and trained in NVQ level 2 and 3 to provide the best support for individuals in our care. We are committed to training and co-ordinate comprehensive training programmes for all staff. Fernley have specialist input from staff employed by the local Health Authority:
