Laverstoke Gardens

I have been in Laverstoke Gardens for three years. I have been very happy with the way the staff have looked after me. I have special dietary requirements and the staff help me to make sure I stick to my diet as recommended by my dietician. I am involved in chores in the house and that makes me very happy. I enjoy going on holidays, going bowling, and taking part in a lot of activities organised for us at Laverstoke gardens. I am very happy with the decoration of the lounge and my bedroom.

Laverstoke Gardens is a residential care home based in Roehampton, in South West London. Located in a pleasant residential area, we provide care and accommodation for up to seven people with learning disabilities. Currently there are six women living in the home, and one vacancy. Laverstoke Gardens is located close to Richmond Park, shops, post office and library. It is within five minutes’ walk to local bus routes which have an excellent service to the South West London area.

The house is on two floors. The ground floor has a large kitchen and a dining area, a large lounge, bathroom and toilet facilities - and one bedroom is located on the ground floor. On the top floor there are six rooms, a shower room and bathroom, plus toilets. The home has a large garden which the ladies love to sit and have drinks or lunch in the summer. The ladies organise a summer BBQ every year for their friends and family.

The home has a high standard of décor and all the ladies living in the home are consulted when any changes are being made to the home. Currently the home is in the process of having a lift installed to accommodate the changing health needs of our service users. New double glazed windows have recently been installed.

The home is also in the process of having an overhaul of its interior decoration, this is being done with the involvement of our ladies and staff where appropriate.

Laverstoke Gardens incorporates the Frances Taylor Foundation values in all its work. We preserve respect for the individuals who use our service, and ensure that we uphold their dignity. All the people we support are respected and valued as individuals. We offer a rangeof activities which enables each person to express themselves as unique individuals, for example joining external day centre groups, drama and exercise classes, music therapy sessions (both group and individual sessions) weekly, voluntary work placements, etc. The ladies are also supported by the staff to have annual holidays to their choice of destination, both domestic and international locations.

We aim to help people exercise the opportunity to select from a range of options in all aspects of their lives from the way they dress, food, drinks, activities (both indoor and outdoor).

We ensure meals are balanced and healthy and take into account all of people’s dietary requirements. We do our best to provide a lifestyle for which satisfies people’s social, cultural, religious and recreational interest and needs.

We enable our service users to exercise choice and control over their lives. Most importantly we are aware that our staff will always play a vital role in the welfare of our service users therefore we employ qualified staff in sufficient numbers and with a mixture of skills to meet people’s needs. We recruit all of our staff following the correct policies and procedures which respect equal opportunities and at the same time protect the safety and welfare of the people we support. We continually provide training to ensure staff are equipped with the right knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform their duties.
